What they accept
Raising Mothers is a literary journal for self-identified mothers and parents — biological, non-biological, step, foster, grand, or adoptive — and exclusively supports writers who are Black, Indigenous, or people of color, including cis women, agender, gender non-conforming, genderqueer, two-spirit, and nonbinary people, LGBTQIA writers, and writers with disabilities; it also includes voices of people who were un-mothered or under-mothered, adoptees, and other child-centered perspectives. It publishes experimental and traditional fiction, micro, and flash, with short stories up to 5,000 words and flash fiction under 1,000 words; simultaneous submissions are accepted, only original unpublished work is considered, the submission fee is entirely voluntary, and pay is tiered at $100 for long-form work and $50 for flash, graphic narratives, and interviews, paid after publication.
- AI policy
- Raising Mothers does not accept work created by AI; any submission not entirely created by a human author is automatically rejected.
