What they accept
Consequence, the journal of Consequence Forum, publishes literary work addressing the human consequences and realities of war and geopolitical violence, from combatants, victims, and witnesses; submitters do not need to be veterans or service members. Fiction is read during the January 15 to April 15 and July 15 to October 15 reading periods and is currently closed until January 15, 2027; the submission portal lists flash fiction under 1,000 words and short stories and excerpts up to 5,000 words. There is no reading fee, simultaneous submissions are accepted, work previously published in English is not considered, responses come within 120 days, and while the journal states that it pays contributors, no fiction rate was stated in the guidelines checked.
