Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine

Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine publishes every kind of mystery short story, from psychological suspense and deductive puzzles to private-eye, hardboiled, and cozy stories, and does not want explicit sex or violence. The preferred range is 2,500 to 8,000 words, with stories under 700 or over 20,000 words less likely to be published, and work must be previously unpublished in the United States. Original stories pay 6 to 8 cents a word, and response time for fiction is up to 3 months.
